Boys Wrestling vs Kushner

SAR dominated Kushner in Monday night's wrestling match, winning 49 to 24. Wins came by pin from freshman Jonathan Mukumal, junior Jeremy Berger, sophomore Leo Wiener, senior Joel Fisch, freshman Shachar Matzui in his first career win, sophmore Kenny "Bear" Burstien, and wins came in a decision by points from freshman Jonah Burian who won 9-5, and senior Cfir Feinberg who won 15-7. In exhibition matches, freshman Josh Askowitz won in his first career win by pin, sophmore Liav Garbuz won by pin, and freshman Max Berger won 7-4. The wrestling team is looking great and hopes to keep improving and succeeding throughout the season. We look forward to their big rival match against TABC on December 14, and hope to see many fans cheering them on at home.

Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Kushner

Varsity girls won in 3 straight sets 21-15, 21-15, 21-18 to bring there record to 2-1. The girls came out to a great start with many winning spikes matched with beautiful sets.  Senior Abby Epstein had an amazing block to further excite the teams momentum.  Junior Jen Goldsmith, Junior Amanda Klestzick and Senior Maxine Yurowitz rallied in serving 5 straight points for the sting.  In the last set, the team hit a few struggles having Kushner score 5 straight points.  Coach Gryzlo called two key time outs to settle the girls down.  Then they came back refocused to win the last set.

Girls JV volleyball played a great skilled match vs Kushner winning in 2 sets, 21-13 and 21-6.  Freshman Hayley Yurowitz served 17 straight points for the sting, giving them a good cushion in the second set. The whole team rallied around Hayley to show great team support to her accomplishment.  The team had great spirit and enthusiasm contributing to there success.

Varsity Boys Hockey vs MTA

In their 6th game of the season, Varsity Hockey defeated MTA 3-1. Seconds into the first period, Jacob Ungar scored giving SAR a 1-0 lead. However, MTA would not let this phase them as they responded 30 seconds later with a goal of their own. In the second period, Seffi Jonas scored his second goal of the season to give SAR a 2-1 lead. Jonah Amron started his second game of the season in net, only giving up an early first period goal. SAR took a 2-1 lead into the third. Sam Soff tacked on one more goal to make it 3-1 as SAR cruised to victory. Strong play by Azi Lavi as well as he received the broadway hat in tonights W.

Girls Varsity Volleyball @Bruriah

The girls varsity volleyball team defeated Bruriah in 5 competitive sets: 3-2. The first set was back and forth but they were able to pull it out with a score of 22-20. Bruriah stormed as SAR lost the second and third set 16-21 and 21-23. Despite having their backs against the wall, SAR responded with a strong 4th set victory, 21-11. In the fifth set, SAR continued their dominant play winning the final set 21-13.It was a rough few sets, but they all ended up getting together, working hard and fighting until the end. All the setters had great passes and really played a key role in this win. Senior Abby Epstein served 7 straight points with at least 6 winning spikes. Senior Maxine Yurowitz served 8 straight points. Senior Sofia Schreiber had a bunch of key saves but everyone really kept the intensity up and played together as a team. Great job lady sting!

Girls Jv Volleyball @Bruriah

The girls Jv volleyball team defeated Bruriah in 2 sets. They dominated both sets with scores of 21-14 and 21-8. It was an all around team effort, but Freshman Hayley Yurowitz served 7 straight points in a row and sophomore Bracha Eisenstat served 6 straight points and added many great spikes.

Boys Wrestling

In a resounding victory against Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy HS, the SAR wrestling team Scored 45 points to RKA's 31. Freshmen Max Berger, Jonah Burian, and Jonathan Mukumal all pinned their opponents. This was Jonah's first win. Veterans Ori Feinberg, Leo Wiener, and Aidan Smolar, also pinned their opponents, and Jonathan Wiener won on points 7-0. The wrestling season is off to a great start, and we look forward to beating Kushner on Monday night.

Varsity Boys Hockey at JEC

Last night, Varsity hockey defeated JEC by a score of 9-1 . Jesse Schanzer scored the first goal to give SAR an early 1-0 lead. JEC responded with a goal of their own to tie it up at 1. However, late in the first period, Jacob Ungar scored his 7th goal of the season to give SAR a 2-1 lead ending the first period. SAR scored 8 unanswered goals and cruised to an easy victory improving to 4-0. They are set to take on TABC on Thursday November 20th. 

JV Boys Basketball at Hillel

The JV Boys beat Hillel 51-15 in a game that was never in doubt.  As everyone received ample playing time, SAR had 11 different players score points, led by Amichai Feit and Daniel Wisotsky with 9 apiece and Dovie Marcus chipping in 7 and Erez Major 6.  The win brings the team's record to 2-1 in the league standings.

JV Rubenstein Championships

SAR lost in the Rubenstein Memorial Basketball Tournament championship game, 57-50, in overtime.  Dovie Marcus brought SAR back with continuous clutch shots in the 4th quarter and led SAR with 21 points.  Daniel Wisotsky played the entire second half and overtime, scoring 15, and the two co-captains were Tournament All-Stars.

The SAR wrestling team started off the season well on Tuesday night at MTA, with wins from Jeremy Berger, Cfir Feinberg, Aidan Smolar Alexander Haberman, Danny Alexander, Kenny Burstien, Daniel Osen, and freshmen Max Berger and Jonathan Mukumal.

Varsity Girls Basketball vs Bruriah

On Tuesday night, the Varsity girls basketball team defeated Bruriah 49-34. SAR was led by junior Dahlia Fischer who had 20 points and senior Rebecca Packer who had 15 points. SAR is a strong team with signs of championship aspirations.

Jv boys Rubenstein Tournament game 2

In Game 2 of the Rubenstein Memorial JV Basketball Tournament, SAR defeated DRS 45-32.  The Sting will face Ramaz in the semis on Saturday night, on the TABC court.  Tonight, SAR was led by Daniel Wisotsky's 17 points and Dovie Marcus' 9.  The Sting played their best defense in the 2-3 zone all season and made life difficult for the DRS offense. 

Jv Boys Rubenstein Tournament Game 1

In SAR's first game of the 7th Annual Rubenstein Memorial Tournament, the Sting beat HAFTR 46-31.  After leading 10-5 at the conclusion of the first quarter, SAR went on a massive run and led by 15 at the half.  They kept the momentum going with a 21-point lead in the third.  Led by Dovie Marcus' brilliant 16 points and Daniel Wisotsky's 11, SAR's dynamic duo was nearly impossible to stop.  The Sting next face DRS on Thursday night with a chance to make it to the tournament's Final Four on Saturday night (out of 12 teams).

Varsity Hockey vs Frisch

In an overtime thriller, SAR edges Frisch by a score of 3-2. Frisch scored the first goal minutes into the first period, but Azi Lavi responded with a goal of his own to tie it up. Early in the second period, Jacob Ungar scored a power play goal to give SAR a 2-1 lead. Frisch responded with a fluke goal with 8:10 remaining in the second. Shots were fired by both teams in the third period, but the third period belonged to the goalies as the third ended in a tie 2-2. They headed to overtime: 3 on 3 play. With 3 minutes left in overtime, who else but Jacob Ungar came through for SAR as he scored his second goal of the game as SAR defeated Frisch 3-2. They improve to 3-0 on the season. Next up JEC.

JV Boys Basketball vs. Kushner

After witnessing an impressive Varsity basketball win, the JV boys basketball team were motivated to defeat Kushner. It was a close game throughout but SAR was able to secure the victory 56-51. Dovie Marcus and Daniel Wisotsky combined for 29 strong points (Marcus 15, Wisotsky 14) to lead their team to victory. They improve to 1-1 on the young season.

In the team's home opener, SAR put on a show defeating Kushner by a score of 50-18. SAR came out of the gate hot and never looking back. Josh Blustein led a strong first quarter charge with 11 points. SAR led at halftime 30-8. Simon Kofman came off the bench and ran the offense well contributing 6 points. Starters Ariel Smith, Rafi Kubersky, and Andrew Pitkoff contributed strong play both offensively and defensively. The team improves to 1-2 as they head into a stretch of 5 tournament games over the next couple weeks.

Varisty Boys Hockey @ Heschel

It was a dominating victory to say the least. SAR defeated Heschel by a score of 16-0. SAR came out strong in the first period scoring 5 unanswered goals. They used this momentum to set a SAR school record with 9 goals in the second period. This was a true team victory as everyone contributed. Jacob Ungar and Daniel best both had their first career Hat-Tricks. Sting Sports Report would like to congratulate Martin Fried on his first career goal as a member of the hockey team. The team improves to 2-0 as they prepare for  a rivalry game against Frisch on Monday night at home.

Jv Girls Basketball vs Kushner

It was an impressive win for the lady sting on sunday as they defeated Kushner 41-19. Their momentum from the fourth quarter of the Frisch game carried over to start this game as they scored 16 first quarter points. SAR continued their strong play as they took a 25-9 lead at the half. Coach Leslie Spalding took out the starters mid way through the third to ensure that every member of the team got to play in today's victory. Rebecca Hyman led the team with 11 points, Sophie Hecht added a humble 8 points, and Eva Ingber dropped 6.
