Undeterred by Frisch's Wrestling Tradition, SAR Picks Up a Big Win
January 27th, 2014- Last night, the SAR boys wrestling team took on the Frisch Cougars in Paramus, NJ. Although Frisch is known for their top notch wrestling history, the Sting were not going to let that get in their head. With former Frisch captain and three time Wittenberg champion Zach Kahan leading the way, his SAR boys confidently onto the mat, and they came away with a victory. The match started off with a Frisch forfeit at the 106 lbs. matchup, leaving the 80 lb. Ori Feinberg with the win. Jeremy Berger, the runner up from last year's Wittenberg tournament, came into wrestle at 113 lbs. Jeremy was in control the entire match. Although he was unable to get the pin, Jeremy won with a final score of 15-4. With Berger cutting to 113, that left the 120 weight class all to Leo Weiner. Leo came in with his right foot forward and his hands up for his first start of the season. Leo has mastered the his double leg shot, and occasionally throws in a few of his own tricks by sweeping his opponents right off their feet. In the 126 lb. class, the Sting were represented by the fearless and ruthless Jonathan Weiner. Jon took on the third place winner from last year's tournament, Joshua Fischman, and won in a 4OT thriller. Sting captain Josh Shaw won easily in 36 seconds to put his shaky season back on track. At 145 lbs. Zach Smart showed up to the match ready to fight and showed us the true meaning of technique. Smart's everlasting stamina mixed with his spot on technique translates to his success on the mat. Wrestling at 160, freshmen Liav Garbuz really proved himself. Winning his first match of the season, this is Liav's turning point in the season, and we can't wait for Liav to tear it up in the upcoming Wittenberg tournament. After a 170 lbs. and 182 lbs. loss, Frisch forfeited three matches in a row at 195 lbs. 220 lbs. and 285 lbs. The final score was 55 - 24 in favor of your SAR Sting.
