Varsity Boys Basketball vs. FLATBUSH MDY TOURNAMENT

October 16, 2013- After falling behind early, the SAR Sting managed to fight its way back to a 50-43 win over the Yeshiva of Flatbush Falcons.  The Sting was led on offense by point guard Sammy Hyman, who finished with a team high 18 points. His relentless play rubbed off onto the entire team.  The two teams traded baskets throughout the entire first half, but the real story of the first half was the Sting’s lackadaisical effort rebounding the basketball, and at the half the Falcons led by three, 24-21.  In the second half, the Sting played with more intensity and rebounded the ball much better than it did in the first half.  In the third quarter, the Sting went on a bit of a run, ignited by the three point shooting of guard Josh Deutsch off the bench, who finished with 8 points. During the final two minutes of that quarter, however, the Falcons began to come back, and going into the fourth quarter the Sting held a slim 3 point lead.  During the final quarter, the Sting played as one unit, with no player truly taking the spotlight, but played undisciplined at times.  Yet, in the last few minutes, the Sting’s team play was too much for the Falcons, and the Sting came away with the W. Josh Shenwick's play was superb, as his stellar defense put the clamps on the Falcons’ top player holding him to 8 points.  The Sting will move on to face the Heschel Heat in what promises to be a defensive duel. The game is Thursday, 10/17 in Magen David at 8:45pm.
