Varsity Boys Basketball vs. KUSHNER MDY TOURNAMENT

October 14, 2012- The SAR Sting, just coming off of a victory in exhibition play vs TABC, looked to continue their success at the expense of the Kushner Cobras in the first round of the Magen David Yeshivah Tournament in Brooklyn, NY. The Sting came out of the gate sloppy, trailing by three going into the second quarter. Defense played a clear role in the second quarter though, as SAR’s tight man to man pressure forced Kushner into multiple turnovers and missed shots. In addition, shots began to fall for The Sting, particularly those that left the hands of Daniel Jonas from three point territory. The Sting held onto a slim lead going into the half, but the momentum was shifting strongly in their direction. The third quarter seemed to bring some of the same results seen after the second. SAR went on a scoring outburst toward the end of the third. The sequence of the game occurred during the final seconds of the third quarter. A strong defensive possession by SAR forced Kushner into a tough shot, which rimmed out to Josh Deutsch, who with three seconds on the clock, dribbled around three defenders before heaving a half court prayer. Bang! The ball went through the rim, and SAR, who got off to a rather shaky start, seemed to be in full control. Kushner however wouldn’t go down without a fight. A full court press kept SAR on its feet and led to a few turnovers and rushed possessions. However once The Sting managed to beat the press, it resulted in numerous buckets. SAR left victorious, winning by a score of 43 to 35. Balanced scoring all around for The Sting certainly was noticeable.. The Sting will look to move on to the next round of the tourney, as they will be facing Flatbush this Wednesday at 7:15pm in MDY.
